Christmas Honors: A Heartfelt Community Tradition

Christmas Honors is a community-led volunteer event dedicated to honoring the fallen servicemen and women laid to rest at the Fort Smith National Cemetery. Each December, thousands of volunteers gather to place a wreath on every headstone, more than 16,000 in total, creating a powerful display of gratitude and remembrance for the heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice.
Key Event Dates and Details
Wreath Workshop & Assembly / Friday, December 5, 2025
Fort Smith Convention Center, Hall C 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Volunteers will gather to assemble thousands of wreaths in preparation for the placement ceremony. Trucks and trailers are needed to help transport completed wreaths from the convention center to the cemetery.
Christmas Honors Wreath Event / Saturday, December 6, 2025
Fort Smith National Cemetery
Family Time: 8:00 a.m. – 10:30 a.m.
Families of fallen heroes are invited to place wreaths on their loved ones’ headstones during this private and respectful time.
Public Ceremony: 11:00 a.m.
A community ceremony will be held at the pavilion to honor all who have served and sacrificed.
Public Wreath Placement: Approximately 11:30 a.m.
Following the ceremony, all attendees will help lay wreaths on the remaining headstones throughout the cemetery.
Wreath Pick-Up and Storage
Volunteers with trucks and trailers are also needed for post-event cleanup and transport:
