The Poteau BalloonFest returns October 17–18, 2025, filling the LeFlore County Fairgrounds with color, music, and fall magic. Families from across Oklahoma and Arkansas gather to watch dozens of hot air balloons lift into the sky at sunrise, then glow after dark in one of the state’s most photogenic traditions. The event also features live music, carnival rides, monster trucks, helicopter and tethered balloon rides, and the Kansas City BBQ Society’s official Oklahoma State Cook-Off, all for just $5 admission.

Even if the winds don’t cooperate for flight, there’s still plenty to enjoy on the ground with local vendors, food trucks, and family activities that make the fairgrounds come alive. Expect warm afternoons, cool evenings, and plenty of Instagram-worthy skies as the balloons rise over Poteau’s rolling hills.

🍔 More Than Just Balloons

While the hot-air balloons are the stars, the fun doesn’t stop when the burners cool. This year’s lineup features:

  • Kansas City BBQ Society Cook-Off — the official Oklahoma state championship, complete with tastings.

  • Carnival rides and monster truck shows for the thrill-seekers.

  • Helicopter rides and tethered balloon rides for a sky-high view without leaving town.

  • Live music, local vendors, and craft booths, showcasing Poteau’s creative side.

Families can expect plenty of open space to relax, picnic, and enjoy the crisp fall weather — and yes, there’s kettle corn, lemonade, and funnel cakes at nearly every turn.

💡 If You Go
